Serge Essenin, husband of Isadora Duncan, has been released fromjail, where he was held with three companions on a charge of insulting and subversive anti-Semitic conversation, causes the Moscow correspondent of the NEW YORK TIMES.
Essenin is no longer Isadora’s husband, if his own statements and those of his friends are to be trusted. Without awaiting the formality of a divorce a few days age he selected a new partner, a young actress from the Kamerny Theatre.
The facts of his arrest, as Essenin alleges, are those:
“The four poets were in a beer saloon, when they noticed a prosperous-looking citizen who appeared to them to take an undue interest in their conversation. Whereupon they told him what they thought of him, adding some general remarks about Jewish ‘Nepmen’ as chalk from cheese.”
