During the course of his talk Dennis discussed various aspects of Fascism; the totalitarian ideal, the corporative state, dictatarianship religious aspects, and nationalism. He walked out of the church amid jeers, hisses, applause, and cries of “Down with Hitler and Fascism!” “Read the Brown Book!” and “Workers of the world unite!”
Rabbi Edgar E. Siskin, of Temple Mishkan Israel, speaking on behalf of Jews present in the audience, said that Dennis was guilty of a “violent misinterpretation of Jewish ideology.”
“How can an intelligent speaker maintain the theery that the tactics of Hitler are those advocated By judaism?” Dr. Siskin said. “The ethics of the Jews and Christians are the same, one having grown out of the other. Hitler is today running into a great deal of trouble because Christian leaders in Germany insist upon preserving the Jewish traditions of Christianity.
“The Jewish people are naturally apprehensive of any Fascist propaganda because of the tactics against members of their race that have been followed by Hitler. Mr. Dennis who asserts that he is American and loves America more than any country in the world would destroy everything that has made this country what it is. His doctrine of ‘what works is right’ is immoral and we shall fight it with all our strength.”Two representatives of the Communists spoke from the pulpit following Rabbi Siskin.
