Gestapo chief Willy legers, who was responsible for the deportation from holland of more than 100,000 Jews, has been arrested, the Dutch radio reported today. Lagers is among 10,000 war criminals housed in Amsterdam Jeils, the Broadcast said.
The first synagogue service in Amsterdam since its liberation was held this week. Guest of honor were three policeman who risked their lives during the occupation to warn Jews of impending deportations. Only a fifth of the congregation consisted of Jews, the others being non-Jews who came to show their sympathy. From all reports only about 10,000 of an estimated 100,000 Jews who resided in the dutch capital before the war remain.
