The Jewish Council of Amsterdam today issued an appeal to the Jews in Holland who have not yet been arrested by the Nazis for deportation, asking them to donate any winter clothing and warm blankets they can spare to the Jews now held in Camp Westerbork, from where internees are usually transported to Nazi-held territory in the East.
Pointing out that any surplus pieces of warm clothing “will sooner or later be confiscated” by the authorities, the Jewish Council urges that Jews still enjoying freedom aid the deportees by providing them with any kind of warm wearing apparel in order to keep them warm during the winter months in the places to which they may be deported.
At the same time the Chief Rabbi of Holland issued an appeal to religious Jews in the country to donate Bibles, phylacteries, prayer shawls, prayer books and other articles of Jewish ritual for the use of the Jews interned in the Westerbork camp.
