Dutch Population Called Upon to Demonstrate Against Yellow Badges for Jews

Radio Orange, the Netherlands station in London, tonight called upon the population of occupied Holland to launch immediate demonstrations against a reported German order requiring Dutch Jews to wear a yellow Star of David when appearing in public.

The broadcast reminded Netherlanders that when the German authorities issued a similar order in Belgium, Belgians replied by wearing the Star of David as an act of solidarity with their Jewish compatriots.

The appeal broadcast by Radio Orange said. “Reports reach us that the Jews in Holland will be compelled to wear the Star of David when appearing in public. We have not received definite confirmation. If it is true, however, we trust you will see through this malicious order, which is a German attempt to create barriers between Jewish and other Netherlanders. They are barriers which Hollanders have never wanted. When, some time ago, the occupying power in Belgium issued similar orders, Belgians replied by all wearing the Star of David. With full confidence we are leaving it to you to prepare to execute together, without any exception and without waiting, all measures which are necessary in this case in order to demonstrate the unbreakable unity of our people against the occupying power.”
