Peter Gerbrandy, Premier of the Netherlands Government-in-Exile, today made public a statement of friendship to the Jews in behalf of his cabinet, emphasizing the fact that Jews in Holland have always enjoyed full rights as equal citizens.

“Our reply to the Jewish problem,” the statement reads, “is implied in our slogan ‘A Netherlands liberated under the House of Orange.’ For centuries Netherlands has been a refuge for the persecuted of all creeds. The House of Orange guarantees freedom to all Dutch citizens. There is no need for us to make promises. Our long history shows what we have done. We are proud of the many Dutch Jews. A large number of them have enriched our national life. Their virtues and learning added to the good name of our people. For these reasons they can always count on our sympathy and understanding.”
