That the Dutch Government is still undecided on what course of action it is to pursue in the ### of permitting or not permitting Jews and “Aryan” aliens of ### German extraction to be married within Holland’s borders was confessed today by Minister of Justice Dr. E.J.H. Van Schaik.
Dr. Van Schaik, addressing the Second Chamber, declared that legal opinion is not yet definite on the subject.
According to an international convention of 1902, to which Holland and Germany are signatories, all laws governing marriage must be observed by both countries. When the Reichstag at its meeting September 15 in Nuremberg adopted laws forbidding Jews and “Aryan” Germans to intermarry, Holland and other countries were expected also to ban such marriages.
Dr. Van Schaik indicated that the Government is considering methods whereby it would be possible to overcome the difficulties created by the Nuremberg decree.
