The heroism of the workers of Amsterdam who in 1941 went on strike in protest against Nazi deportation of Dutch Jews to concentration camps, was commemorated here today at the tenth annual memorial exercises before a monument erected on the site of the former Amsterdam ghetto, which was razed by the Germans.
The action of the Amsterdam workers will remain forever engraved in the hearts of the Dutch people, Dr. Arnold Dailly, Mayor of Amsterdam, declared at the exercises. A number of other persons spoke and several wreaths were laid at the foot of the monument. The Communists held a separate meeting to commemorate the same event.
