Chairman Alexander Wiley of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee revealed today that Secretary of State John Foster Dulles on his recent trip told Arab and Israel leaders that the United States was re-affirming the tri-partite declaration of 1950 that “we would take a grave view of violations of the Arab-Israel armistice boundaries.”

Sen. Wiley issued the statement today after his committee met in secret session with Mr. Dallas. “The Secretary,” said the Senator, “emphasized the intensity of the dispute between Egypt and Great Britain and also the bitterness of the Arab feeling toward Israel.” Mr. Dallas was quoted as saying “the Arabs are afraid of Israel and Israel is afraid of the Arabs…a lasting peace settlement between Israel and the Arabs will probably have to be worked out step by step…an early overall peace should not be expected.”

The Foreign Relations Committee was told that the re-affirmation of the 1950 declaration by Secretary Dallas was an attempt to allay fears in the area.
