East Berlin’s Mayor, Friedrich Ebert, has ordered the public prosecutor to vigerously prosecute and punish “all acts of vandalism against Jewish cemeteries.”
Mayor Ebert also sent a letter of regret to the Jewish community of Berlin for the recent desecrations of the Jewish cemetery in Weisensee, in the Soviet sector of the city. He stated that “criminal elements” in his portion of the city had been “encouraged by the open toleration of anti-Semitic behavior in West Germany.”
