The East German Government, in the Soviet zone of Germany has abolished all reparation and indemnification laws existing in its territory, it was reported here today. The laws had been enacted by the governments of the East German and West German states, on the initiative of the Allied Control Council, in 1945.
Nullification of these laws affects especially persons now residing abroad who suffered material losses under the Nazi regime and whose property has so far been administered by trustees.
Soviet sources said today that new laws governing the future status of reparation and indemnification procedures have already been drafted by the provincial governments of East Germany. No indication of the nature of these new laws was given.
Ernest Reuter, Mayor of Berlin, and Heinz Galinski, chairman of the Berlin Jewish Community Council, participated yesterday in a roundtable discussion on the Israel-German, Jewish-German reparations negotiations. The discussion was broadcast over the Northwest German Radio.
