Israel is receiving “much help from friendly nations,” Ambassador Abba Eban told an Israel bond dinner here. The function, one of the largest Israel-oriented activities in this city in recent years, was attended by 600 persons who purchased Israel bonds for their admission.

“We fully understand the pre-occupation of the United States with the crisis in the Middle East. We in Israel have maintained reticence, but we know that if Lebanon and Jordan lose their independence, our is threatened, too. Ten years ago, ” Mr. Eban pointed out, “we were obsessed by the solitude which surrounded us. Today we enjoy a growing circle of friendship on the five continents. “

Turning to Israel’s economic situation, the Ambassador said that the present period is one in which “we will need help to bridge the gap between resources and need. ” Israel bond sales are of prime importance, he stressed, to Israel’s planned expansion of agriculture, industry and exports.
