Aubrey S. Eban, chief of the Israel delegation to the United Nations, and Eliahu Elath, Israel Ambassador, today discussed “matters of mutual interest” with George C. McGhee, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs. Ambassador Elath explained that the “matters” involved the United States and Israel. The Israelis conferred with McGhee for a half-hour.

The Shah of Iran indicated today that his country does not plan recognition of Israel in the foreseeable future. Asked if he “wished Israel well,” the Shah replied that Iran had not yet recognized Israel. He emphasized that Iran “is a good Moslem country.” However, he pointed out, Iran is historically tolerant of minorities.
