Ambassador Abba S. Eban, head of the Israel delegation here, conferred today with United Nations Secretary General conference scheduled to be conducted by the UN at Geneva next August.
Ambassador Eban also called on sir Leslie Munro, president of the UN Security Council, to discuss the continued failure of Egypt to comply with a United Nations request that the Israel freighter “Bat Galim” be released.
It was learned from informed sources that Ambassador Eban pointed out that Egypt has taken no measures to comply with a wish expressed by a majority of the Security Council that the ship and its cargo be restored to Israel and that the United National resolution of 1951 be fully honored in this and all other cases.
Israel circles emphasized that the Security Council’s recent discussion rules out any procedure which would violate the 1951 resolution on free passage through the Suez Canal. It is felt by Israel sources that the matter cannot be regarded as closed and it liable to arise again in the Security Council.
