Political and economic problems were today discussed when Israel Ambassador Abba Eban met for over an hour with Under Secretary of State Christian A. Herter. Mr. Eban disclosed that the conversation covered a broad review of recent events in the Middle East.
Participating in the meeting were Aharon Wiener, head of Israel’s national water planning authority, and Embassy Minister Yaacov Herzog. Mr. Wiener is here to implement use of the recently authorized $24, 200, 000 Export-Import Bank loan for irrigation projects in Israel. Mr. Eban said talks were proceeding well on a loan by the U.S. Development Loan Fund. The new loan is expected to include funds to finance power development and other projects.
Jacob Blaustein, American Jewish leader, also visited the State Department today and had a lengthy talk with Mr. Herter to whom he gave his views on his recent visit to Israel and other countries.
