Israel Ambassador Abba Eban today reviewed the whole question of U.S. economic aid to Israel–past, present, and future–in a lengthy meeting with Christian A. Herter, Under Secretary of State.
Mr. Eban later told newsmen, in effect, that now that the new budget has been published it is the season to discuss economic cooperation and the various new headings mentioned for aid. Participating in today’s discussion were Meir Sherman, Israeli economic officer, and Embassy Minister Yacov Herzog.
A general discussion of Middle Eastern affairs also took place. Mr. Eban said he had hoped to see Secretary of State Dulles prior to the latter’s departure for the Baghdad Pact meeting at Ankara and may yet do so.
In connection with political and security problems. Ambassador Eban discussed his most recent talk with United Nations Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold. Generally, Mr. Eban provided a review of Israel’s views and problems including economic matters. The meeting lasted over an hour.
