A report that Aubrey Eban, Israel’s permanent representative at the United Nations, is likely to be nominated to the post of Israel Ambassador to Washington was published here today. The report is attributed to “usually reliable sources” in Tel Aviv.
Eliahu Elath, Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, will probably be transferred to London as successor to the late Dr. Mordecai Eliash, the report said. The Israel legation here refused to comment on the report, while the British Foreign Office said that “a name has been submitted for agreement, but according to diplomatic usage no announcement can be made prior to the completion of formalities and approval by the King.”
(In Washington, Ambassador Elath refused to comment on the report. Mr. Eban, who was not in New York today, could not be reached for comment.)
