Israeli Foreign Minister Abba Eban’s round of appointments today included a meeting with the newly-elected president of the General Assembly, Adam Malik of Indonesia, an exchange of friendly luncheon toasts with Secretary General U Thant and separate talks with three Asian representatives on the issue of the representation of the Peoples Republic of China, according to an Israeli spokesman. Eban congratulated Malik, Indonesia’s Foreign Minister, upon his election, and the two men discussed the problems facing the Assembly. Malik reportedly showed interest in the Middle East situation and expressed the hope that there would be progress towards peace in the Middle East. During the luncheon Eban also met with Toru Nakagawa of Japan, this month’s President of the Security Council. The Israeli Foreign Minister is scheduled to hold a press conference tomorrow afternoon.
