The Permanent Commission for the European Economic Community is expected to submit its recommendations within two months regarding Israel’s application for associate EEC membership, Foreign Minister Abba Eban said here today.
A ruling on the application, Mr. Eban said, would probably be made in the summer, when Israel’s trade treaties with the EEC expire. The Foreign Minister did not speculate on whether or not Israel will be accepted, but he expressed satisfaction at the spirit of understanding displayed by representatives of the Community during the recent discussion of the issue with Israeli delegates to the Commission meetings in Brussels.
