Israel’s Foreign Minister Abba Eban said today that the West German government acted correctly in its handling of the Palestinian terrorists who killed 11 Israeli athletes on Sept. 5. Speaking on CBS-TV’s “Face the Nation,” Eban said that although he was not satisfied with the results, the basic decision of the West German government was correct.
He denied speculation that Israel will conduct anti-terrorist activities on foreign soil, noting that Israel was not in a position to do so and that it respected the sovereignty of other nations. Eban proposed that countries end commercial air traffic with those nations that aid and harbor terrorists. Referring to the air strikes against terrorist strongholds in Lebanon and Syria last weekend, the Foreign Minister described them as “resistance” to Arab terrorism.
