Economic collapse, due to the severe economic crisis and the system of high taxation, threatens thousands of Jewish families in Carpatho Russia.
In appeals directed to the Government authorities and strongly emphasized in the Jewish press here, the plea is made to the Prague Government that it suspend temporarily the collection of taxes until the crisis is over. The complaint was voiced that the tax commissioners in Carpatho Russia proceed relentlessly in collecting the taxes from the impoverished merchants and artisans, often selling the last pieces of goods and household articles to cover the unpaid taxes.
