Dr. Bistras, former Prime Minister, at present editor of the Christian Democratic newspaper, “Ritas,” was sentenced to one month imprisonment for being the first to publish in his newspaper the report of the anti-Jewish riots in Volkovishki.
In publishing the item, the “Ritas” then declared that under the “policy of the present cabinet, excesses are unavoidable.”
FAREWELL BANQUET NOVEMBER 20TH AT HOTEL ASTOR
A banquet in honor of Dr. Chaim Weizmann, President of the World Zionist Organization, before his departure from the United States, will be given at the Astor Hotel, New York, Tuesday evening, November 20, according to an announcement made by Morris Rothenberg, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the United Palestine Appeal. The banquet will be given under the auspices of the United Palestine Appeal and a group of non-Zionists.
Invitations to the banquet have been issued by the Board of Directors of the United Palestine Appeal to leading campaign workers of the United Palestine Appeal Committee for Greater New York and others who wish to express their appreciation of Dr. Weizmann’s efforts in this country leading to the decision of the recent Non-Zionist Conference in New York.
It is understood that the banquet will be the occasion for arranging the preliminary organization of the United Palestine Appeal activities in Greater New York. The campaign is not scheduled to open before January.
Nationally known leaders of both the United Palestine Appeal and the Non-Partisan group will be the speakers to bid farewell to Dr. Weizmann.
