The editor of the “Voelkishe Beobachter,” the Hitlerist organ in Munich, was sentenced yesterday to pay a fine of 300 marks on a charge of libel against Dr. Alexander Eliasberg.
Last autumn, Mrs. Eliasberg, a Russian lady who had adopted Judaism upon her marriage, was sentenced in Munich to five months imprisonment for having used the word “Boche” as a retort to a girl
who had thrown anti-Semitic abuse at her in the street. Dr. Eliasberg too was arrested in connection with this affair, but he was released and expelled from Bavaria. The “Voelkische Beobachter,” in its issue of the next day, reported Fr. Eliasberg’s arrest with a reference to his house as having been the Bolshevist headquarters in Munich. Dr. Eliasberg immediately brought a libel action against the paper, but the case did not come up till yesterday.
