Robert E. Edmondson, anti-Semitic propagandist, was indicted for criminal libel today by the New York County Grand Jury following his failure to appear in Tombs Court to answer a summons issued by Mayor LaGuardia.

He was arrested at his office and arraigned in General Sessions before Judges James G. Wallace, who paroled him in custody of John S. Wise, Jr., his attorney, pending posting of $2,500 bail tomorrow.

The libels, according to Assistant District Attorney Edwin B. McGuire, who preferred the charges, were against Dean Virginia Gildersleeve of Barnard College, Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins and against the Jewish religion.

Meanwhile, Marian L. Edmondson, the defendant’s wife, and Mr. Wise sent out a call for open or anonymous contributions to a defense fund for Edmondson. Mrs. Edmondson as treasurer said, “I hereby pledge a faithful patriotic administration of all such trust funds, which will be used to carry this gigantic subversion to the Supreme Court if necessary.”
