Governor Lehman sent a greeting to the Jewish Education Association on its “Bar Mitzvah” anniversary, Bernard Semel, its honorary secretary, announced yesterday.
“Your association stands for spiritual leadership and character building, and there has been no time within this generation when the need for spiritual leadership was so great,” the Governor wrote. “I am happy, therefore, to greet you on the occasion of your ‘Bar Mitzvah’ anniversary. Let us recall the words of the great leader, Moses the Liberator: ‘Man does not live by bread alone.’ “
