Resentment was widespread among Viennese Jews today over the action of the Vienna Merchants Association, which forced Dr. M. Goldberg, director of the commercial schools maintained by the organization, to resign and make room for an “Aryan” successor.
Behind the association, which has hundreds of Jewish members, was seen the hand of the Austrian Fascist government, which has consistently forced out Jewish civil service employees and replaced them with “Aryans.” The government is thought to have forced the hand of the association, since it partly subsidizes the commercial schools.
Jewish students in the schools were particularly incensed by the unceremonious manner in which Dr. Goldberg was ousted.
