Calling upon “students of all ages” to participate in “Chaim Weizmann Year” by reading and relearning “the life-story and accomplishments, the words and deeds of one of the greatest figures in modern Jewish history,” a meeting of representatives of more than a dozen national Jewish educational institutions and associations set forth a program of assemblies, publications and other projects “in tribute to Chaim Waizmann–scientist and statesman, diplomat and spokesman servant of his people and the first President of the State of Israel–on the centenary of his birth.”
The proclamation calls for a renewal of Weizmann’s vision “in tribute to his memory and in solidarity with the people of Israel in the land of Israel.” The meeting at which the proclamation was issued was called by Mrs. Charlotte Jacobson, chairman of the World Zionist Organization, American of the World Zionist Organization , American Section, and Dr. Abraham P. Gannes, director of the Department of Education and Culture of the WZO-American Section.
The birthday anniversary itself will be celebrated by an official observance by the World Zionist Organization Executive Nov. 27 at the New York Hilton at which the featured speakers will be Dr. Nahum Goldmann, past president of the WZO and now president of the World Jewish Congress, Pin-has Sapir, chairman of the Executives of the WZO and Jewish Agency and Mrs. Jacobson. There will be a specially prepared filmstrip on the life and career of Dr. Weizmann.
