Edwin Rosenberg, a nationally known Jewish leader and philanthropist, died here yesterday at the age of 78 after a long illness. Recognized for his “unique ability to reconcile differences and build cooperation,” Mr. Rosenberg has been regarded as the prime move in the merger of organizations that led to the creation of the present United Hias service. He held high offices in the New York Federation of Jewish Philanthropies; the Greater New York and national United Jewish Appeal organizations; Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds; Joint Distribution Committee; New York Association for New Americans; and United Hias. The CJFWF had named a national award for him.
