Efforts to clear Tel Aviv’s streets of the garbage that piled up during a three-day strike by sanitation workers last week were foiled Sunday when garbage truck drivers engaged in a work slowdown. They decided to work only one shift which is insufficient to remove even a single day’s accumulation. Mayor Shlomo Lehat has asked the government to order the drivers to resume their normal hours. Meanwhile, the refuse is festering in cans and plastic bags, providing a feast for dogs and cats and sour odors for the populace.
