Efforts to recruit 440 members of the Communist youth party for work in Bira Bidjan, the Far Eastern Region where an autonomous Jewish region is to be established, have met with failure, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency correspondent here was officially informed yesterday by the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the youth party.
Measures will be taken against Communist youth organizations in such centres as Kiev, Odessa, Zhitomir and Charkov, which have refused to carry out the mobilization orders.
The youthful recruits were to be despatched to Bira Bidjan to improve building conditions there.
Not only have individual Communist youths refused to go to Bira Bidjan but branches of the Communist youth party have been unwilling to send their members there.
Simultaneously the “Emess” complains that Communist youth bodies in numerous cities have notified the central authorities that they will not provide a single member for Bira Bidjan work.
In view of the situation, the secretary of the Communist youth party, Ganaev, is making an effort to secure recruits by voluntary enlistments. Yesterday a call for volunteers was issued to the Communist youth groups in Odessa, Kiev, Zhitomir and Charkov.
In the meantime, it is pointed out that the rainy season is fast approaching, when building activity will be rendered impossible.
