Israel accused Egypt today of having penetrated Israel-controlled waters off Sinai in violation of the disengagement agreement. According to Israeli sources, four Egyptian naval units consisting of missile boats and torpedo boats entered Israeli waters in the Ras Sudar area in combat formation and cruised for 20 minutes before returning to the western side of the Gulf of Suez. Israeli naval units were sent to intercept the Egyptians, but no contact was made. the report said. The Israeli charge was made several days after reports that Egyptian naval craft including missile boats and submarines had made the 104-mile passage through the Suez Canal. The reports indicated that the process of clearing the canal is not yet completed but it is navigable for certain types of vessels.
