Egypt has rejected an Israeli proposal for a binominal peace effort against smuggling and the drug traffic in Sinai. In a message conveyed through diplomatic channels, the Egyptian police said they could not consider a coordinated effort with Israel at this time. Israeli police still hope to gain the cooperation of their Egyptian counterparts when the normalization process between the two countries is further advanced.
