EGYPT IS MAINTAINING A "HANDS OFF" ATTITUDE REGARDING PRESENT DIFFICULTIES IN PALESTINE AND THE PROPOSAL TO PARTITION THE COUNTRY, PREMIER MUSTAPHA EL-NAHAS PASHA INDICATED IN THE SENATE.
ASKED FOR THE ATTITUDE OF THE EGYPTIAN GOVERNMENT RESPECTING PARTITION, THE PREMIER SAID THE GOVERNMENT HAD SOUGHT TO DO EVERYTHING IN ITS POWER TO PROMOTE A SOLUTION OF THE PALESTINE PROBLEM BY DIPLOMATIC MEANS TO RAISE EGYPT’S REPUTATION AMONG ARAB PEOPLES. THE GOVERNMENT, HOWEVER, CONSIDERED IT INADVISABLE IN ITS GENERAL INTERESTS TO PROCEED WITH THE MATTER.
THE NEWSPAPER EL MOKATTAM REPORTS THAT PROTESTS AGAINST PARTITION HAVE BEEN PROHIBITED IN TRANSJORDAN. A NUMBER OF EXTREMIST YOUTHS HAVE BEEN SENT TO A CONCENTRATION CAMP WHILE OTHERS HAVE SUCCEEDED IN ESCAPING INTO PALESTINE, THE DISPATCH SAYS.
