Reports of large-scale infiltration into Israel territory of Egyptian-trained fedayeen units received confirmation yesterday when another such unit was intercepted by an Israel Army patrol several miles inside Israel’s western Negev border. Three of the infiltrators were killed in the ensuing clash with the patrol, while a fourth was seriously injured. All of the infiltrators were equipped with fedayeentype arms.
The incident yesterday occurred two days after another encounter with armed fedayeen in the southern Negev in which one of the infiltrators was wounded and captured. The prisoner said that Egyptian intelligence forces were massing fedayeen in Gaza Strip camps and sending the infiltrators into Israel for espionage purposes. The captured infiltrator said that his group was given the task of observing military communications along the Negev highways.
