Egypt’s President Gamal Abdel Nasser is having trouble, much of it financial, in developing further his Jet propulsion program and his plans for building an atomic reactor, dispatches received here today from Cairo indicated. Both the Jet program and the nuclear reactor project are parts of the Nasser plan to develop sophisticated weapons designed, ultimately, for aggression against Israel.
On the Jet propulsion program, which is reported to be in a “state of anarchy” now, the difficulty revolves about 200 German scientists and technicians who were reported ready to leave Cairo and return to Germany, because they had not received their salaries recently and were not sure they would get their money soon.
On the atomic front, the Cairo reports indicated that Nasser was having trouble raising about $70,000,000 he needs to build a nuclear reactor that would also provide facilities for desalination of seawater. That plant was scheduled to be built near Alexandria.
