The United Nations General Assembly is expected to discuss tomorrow the proposals agreed upon between UN Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold and Egypt with regard to the deployment of the UN Emergency Force in Egypt.
It was learned here today that Egypt wants the force to be stationed along the Israel-Egyptian armistice line be placed on Israeli as well as on Egyptian territory. This cannot be achieved since Israel has refused to withdraw from the Gaza strip. There is a possibility Israel may not find the arrangements concerning the UN force “satisfactory.” It was pointed out today that Israel’s agreement to withdraw from the Sinai Peninsula was conditioned upon the prior conclusion of “satisfactory arrangements” about the UN force.
