The boycott of Jewish-made goods from Palestine was tightened today with the issuance of a goverment decree forbidding the unloading of “Zionist goods” in any Egyptian port.
The edict was issued by the Ministry of Finance on the eve of a scheduled meeting here of the Arab League Council on Mar. 17. The move will effect even Palestinian goods in transit to other countries, if traneshipment is necessary at an Egyptian port. During a recent discussion of the boycott in the parliament, the Finance Minister admitted that Palestine products were being smuggled into the country.
It is understood that the Arab League intends to question all its number states on the measures they have taken to implement the League’s boycott. The ban has been in effect since Jan. 1, 1946.
The Arab states have instructed their representatives in the United States, Britain and Russia to sound out those governments on the degree of support which the Arabs can expect when the Palestine issue arises in the United Nations, it was learned today. The Palestine Arab delegation to the League meeting will firet meet with the ex-Mufti of Jerusalem to formulate the delegation’s position on Palestine and the U.N.
