Arab newspapers in Palestine are jubilant over the report that the Egyptian Government has officially queried American authorities regarding the nature of the pro-Zionist activities of the 68 members of the Senate and 194 members of the House of Representatives who signed a statement declaring that the Balfour Declaration "was designed to open the gates of Palestine to homeless and harassed multitudes and to the pave the way for the establishment of a Jewish Commonwealth."
"We know now," the Arab newspaper Falastin writes, "that the Palestine problem is no longer an orphan and that it is engaging the attention of the United Nations." The paper quotes the Egyptian Premier as stating: "We are interested in the Palestine question as much as we are interested in the Egyptian question. We follow all that happens in Palestine and we do what we can. When I heard what was being published and stated in America about Palestine, I addressed myself to the American authorities for information. I have now received the material and intend to give my reply."
The Cairo newspaper El Masri emphasizes that "the interest taken by Premier Mustapha Nachas Pasha in Palestine reflects the natural position of Egypt in assuming leadership of other Eastern nations."
