Preparations are being made here to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the birth of Rambam (Rabbi Moses ben Maimon, or Maimonides). A committee has been formed to take measures for the observance of the birthday here in March, 1935.
Joseph Cattaui Pasha, president of the Jewish Historical Research Society of Egypt, and Chief Rabbi Haim Nahum Effendi, have selected Dr. Max Meyerhoff, leading researcher into medical practices of Islamic times, Dr. Israel Wolfensohn, young scholar in Jewish history and archaeology in Islamic times, Dr. Alfred Yulouz, and Moise Zanua, as members of the committee.
The celebrations will be held in the Royal Opera House or another large hall in Cairo. Synagogue services will be held also. Rambam’s manuscript on “Kitab Al-Akakir,” dealing with medicine, is to be printed, and other publications are contemplated.
