Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak urged President Bush to use “maximum efforts” to help end the Israeli- Palestinian conflict and bring the two sides back to the negotiating table. Bush, who hosted Mubarak at the White House, denied taking a passive role in Middle East peacemaking, saying his administration has been “very engaged,” mostly through telephone conversations with regional leaders.
