The Egyptian press, which had refrained from editorial comment on the appointment of former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Arthur J. Goldberg as the top United States delegate to the United Nations, broke its silence today by attacking the entire Johnson Administration as “Zionist,” according to Cairo dispatches received here.
Until now, most of the Cairo press had been content merely to insist that the United States had named a “Zionist” as U.N. Ambassador. Today, Al Comhouria stated bitterly: “The choice was extremely logical, since Zionists are the ones who direct American policy.”
“If Johnson wants to be more realistic, ” the newspaper stated, referring to the U.S. President, “he should choose all the members of his government from Zionist circles.” The editorial suggested that President Johnson could be “more realistic still” by vacating his own position and giving it “to a Zionist, since they are the true rulers of America.”
