The Egyptian team refused to play Israel today in the 18th annual world champion table tennis tourney here on the grounds that Egypt does not recognize the existence of Israel as a state.
The Egyptians said they had nothing against the Israeli players because of their religion, but could not recognize them as representing a country. The tourney committee was to meet today in an extraordinary session with the possibility that the suspension or expulsion of Egypt would be considered.
