The Union of Jewish Communities in Italy expressed Italian Jewry’s “consternation and indignation” today over the execution of two Jews in Cairo on charges of alleged espionage. In a statement, the Union noted that in similar situations Israel had never used capital punishment. It also expressed the gratitude of Italian Jewry to all Italians, regardless of religion, who had attempted to avoid this “crime against humanity.”
