Ehud Olmert officially called on the chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel and the World Zionist Organization to continue in his post. Zeev Bielski was elected last year and will be up for re-election at the WZO Congress at the end of June. It’s not clear who might run against Bielski, a former mayor of Ra’anana. Bielski’s original candidacy was endorsed by Ariel Sharon, Olmert’s predecessor as prime minister. Olmert affirmed his support for Bielski in a letter Thursday.
