A Vienna jury sentenced Erich Rajakovic, a former aide to Adolf Eichmann to two and a half years in prison today on war crimes charges. The jurors declined to rule on whether Rajakovic, 60, had ordered murders of victims of the Nazi period but affirmed his complicity in the death of 83 Dutch Jews during the Nazi occupation.

The former SS captain disappeared after the collapse of Nazi Germany and was found in 1963 to be living in Milan where he was operating an import-export business. He fled to Switzerland and was expelled by the Swiss police. He then turned up in Vienna, having Austrian citizenship and was arrested and held for trial.
