Defending Adolf Eichmann, notorious Nazi who directed the annihilation of 6,000,000 Jews in Europe during World War II, will cost his family about $75,000, provided the trial does not last more than two months, it was stated here today by Dr. Robert Servatius, the German attorney from Cologne, who arrived here to prepare for the defense. He emphasized that Eichmann’s family will meet all the expenses connected with the defense.
Dr. Servatius met with Eichmann yesterday for the first time and delivered to him a letter from the Nazi’s brother in Linz, Austria. He refused to talk about the contents of the letter. The meeting, which lasted two hours, took place in a transparent, soundproof cubicle in Eichmann’s place of detention, so that the two men could be observed by guards but could not be overheard.
Dr. Servatius left the meeting visibly shaken, it was reported. Declining to reveal the gist of his conversation with Eichmann, the West German lawyer would only say that the Eichmann family had promised to stand by the accused “no matter what happens.” The attorney is expected to meet again with Eichmann this week before returning to Cologne.
