Dr. Robert Servatius, chief of defense counsel for Adolf Eichmann, said here today that he hoped the West German Government would “change its mind” and contribute toward the expenses of Eichmann’s defense.
The Israel Government had voted $20,000 to help defray the expenses for the defense of the ex-Gestapo colonel, now found guilty in the court at Jerusalem and sentenced to hang. However, according to Dr. Servatius, the amount voted by Israel was not sufficient to cover the costs. Those costs have been estimated at $32,000. A request by Dr. Servatius a year ago, that the German Government contribute toward the Eichmann defense, had been vetoed by the authorities at Bonn.
