Plans for the development of Jerusalem were discussed here publicly by the Deputy Mayor of the City, Mr. Daniel Auster. There were two main plans for the development of the city, he said: The first provided for the uncovering of the Old City Wall; the second provided for the reservation of an area of 750 dunams between Mount Scopus and the Mount of Olives as an historic monument. The carrying out of this latter plan would necessitate the requisition of some land now in private hands. The execution of both plans would necessarily bring about the clearance of slums and make way for a modern well-planned commercial center.
To put these plans into effect there would be need for a loan of $8,000,000 and the realization of such a loan would depend on the sanction of the Palestine Government. Mr. Auster expressed the hope that at least some part of these plans will be carried out when the war is over.
