Eight winners of the Nobel Prize, who are associated with universities in Northern California, were honored here last night at a State of Israel Commendation Dinner under the sponsorship of the Israel bond drive. The State of Israel Commendation Award for 1962 was presented to the Nobel Laureates at the dinner by Abba Eban, Minister of Education and Culture of the State of Israel.
The eight Nobel Prize winners honored are: Dr. Felix Bloch of Stanford University joint recipient of the 1952 Nobel Prize in Physics; Dr. Melvin Calvin of the University of California, winner of the 1961 Nobel Prize in Chemistry; Dr. Owen Chamberlain of the University of California, joint recipient of the 1959 Nobel Prize in Physics; Dr. Robert Hofstadter of Stanford University, winner of the 1961 Nobel Prize in Physics.
Also Dr. Arthur Kornberg of Stanford University, joint recipient of the 1959 Nobel Prize in Medicine; Dr. Joshua Lederberg of Stanford University, joint recipient of the 1958 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine; Dr. Emilio Segre of the University of California, joint recipient with Dr. Chamberlain of the 1959 Nobel Prize in Physics; and Dr. William B. Shockley of Stanford University, joint recipient of the 1956 Nobel Prize in Physics.
