Eight young Israeli men were arrested on suspicion of committing neo-Nazi hate crimes.
Israeli police announced the arrests Sunday, describing the suspects as recent immigrants from the former Soviet Union.
The suspects, whose names were withheld from publication, have denied police charges that they attacked religious Jews, foreign workers, homosexuals and drug addicts in the Tel Aviv area. They are further accused of daubing swastikas on several synagogues.
Prosecutors are expected to press assault and vandalism charges against the men.
A police spokesman said none of the suspects is Jewish under Orthodox law, though they all have at least one Jewish grandparent, entitling them to Israeli citizenship.
